For Stacie’s last time, we held our meeting at Winger’s Restaurant. We had dinner and talked and laughed and after, we held our regular board meeting. In attendance were: Ashley Vincent, Olivia Dudding, Jen Buttrick, DG Fletcher, Lori Barrett, Stacie Turpin, Taylor Powelson and Diana Grant.
Book and a Movie – Diana is unable to get books for Nanny McPhee so in February we are showing Where the Wild Things Are. The books have been ordered too. We don’t do a Book and a Movie in December as there are so many activities and the auditorium gets booked out to other groups who pay for the space.
After School Program – We have a high school guy, Wyatt Henderson, who has started a program with beginner friendly design and CAD projects using Tinkercad. Also, design showcases and collaborative builds. He also needs a 3D printer to continue. We have three boy middle-schoolers that have been attending this. They’ve been really enjoying the activities. Emma has a bunch of fun things for other kids to do but they haven’t been coming. The weather’s been really nice and we think more kids will come for early-out Mondays when it starts getting cold out. We should also check the high school for volunteers to help with ongoing programs. Also check with Joey Bernard at the College Sun Center.
Ashley said that kids in the Art Club want to keep their artwork and are not interested in selling anything as in an art show. That will continue until the end of the year.
We are losing Lori as our City Council Liaison. We don’t know who will be named yet. The city person is a source of support and a go-between to Helper. They help with events and communicate whatever the library may need.
The big news of the evening is that Olivia has been elected as the next Chair Person for a term of three years. She has a lot of good ideas and the other members are also enthusiastic about future projects including a possible float entry in the Christmas Parade in Helper.
