Director’s Report:
Book and a Movie was held Friday, February 28th. We had 42 attending the movie The Wild Robot. The kids really liked the movie and we served popcorn, hot dogs and chips, along with bottled water. Everyone had a good time. We gave away 16 books, the most ever. Our next movie will be How to Train You Dragon on Friday April 25th at 6:00.
We went over the Collection Development Policy. After discussion, we decided to eliminate one sentence which was superfluous. The corrected copy will be sent to the State Library. They have used our collection policy as an example in the past.
We received our CLEF grant check for $4164.00 which has to be spent by June 30, 2025. Besides adding to the library collection, we can also use the funds for program supplies.
Taylor talked about the Lego Club which was quite successful. It ran for four weeks with an attendance of at least 10 kids each time. They made some pretty amazing things and had a lot of fun doing it. Taylor will run another session beginning April 9th from 4:30 – 5:30 with a new batch of kids. She said using google docs was a great way to accept applications and keep track of everyone. New kids will have precedence for the next round.
Taylor also talked about a ranch in the area, which does equine therapy. She talked about the possibility of setting up a summer program for teens. This is a hard group to find something to do and we all thought this was a great idea. She will talk to the owner to see what we could get arranged for this age group. It could be something that these kids would really like to do.
Ashley is an art teacher and is interested in doing an art program in the library for about 10 kids in the 9 – 13 age group. There would be two different sessions of half a year each which could be done in the back room. This would be painting projects and an art show which we could charge an admission for as a fund raiser to buy more supplies for the next session.
Taylor also talked about a work session in order to clean out our supply closet. This is scheduled for Thursday, June 5th at 10:00 am. This will be taking everything out of the closet and doing an inventory of what we have. Ashley has a chest she would like to put in the closet for her supplies. Diana talked to Kevin (maintenance) about getting another light put in the closet.
We also talked about the possibility of having Dungeons and Dragons during the summer for another activity for the older kids. Ashley also mentioned Pebbles the Clown, who makes balloon animals, for a story time session. She will call Diana to arrange a time. We also talked about having a Vibe’s booth a couple of times to draw attention to the library and get some new cards distributed.
Stacie moved the meeting be adjourned at 7:25. Taylor seconded the motion and all were in favor.
