Helper Library Board Meeting – January 25, 2024

Stacie called the meeting to order at 6:20 pm. In attendance were: Stacie Turpin, DG Fletcher, Diana Grant, Olivia Dudding via Google Meet, Brittany Pitcher, Ken Kotce and Barbara Reagan taking notes.

Stacie moved that the minutes from the previous meeting be approved, Olivia seconded and all were in favor.
Director’s Report: Book and a Movie – We will be doing Ramona and Beezus on Friday, February 23, 2024 at 6:00 pm. There are books to give out. For the next time, we will post 3 choices on our website for people to choose what they would like: Matilda, Paddington or BFG. That will be in April.

New Web Site – We’ve been getting good feedback on our new site. It’s so nice to have.

New Pens – The library purchased new pens to hand out to patrons with our name and phone number. They’re nice pens with black gel ink. A way to get our name out there.

The Board then got to work on our Strategic Plan for 2024 – 2027. We made decisions on the After School Programs and Community Programs. The document will be published on our web site after it is in its final form. We will also seek community members to volunteer their time and talents to help with these programs. We also need volunteers for the Summer Reading Program.

Making everything more difficult, is the fact that the library will have to be closed for an unknown amount of time for asbestos mitigation. Olivia drafted a letter, which will be read at the next City Council meeting. We are asking for more information about when and how long. We can’t really plan anything until we know what’s going on. The library board is on the agenda for March 7th to read the letter to members of the council and Lenise, the mayor.

Stacie moved that the meeting be adjourned at 8:30 pm. It was seconded and all were in favor.
